Elastic waistband with a faux fly

Sewing Instruction

A faux fly only looks as if there was a zipper inserted.

The pants are sewn without and an elastic waistband is added.

Suited for beginners.

Advanced sewers with own techniques simply continue using them if they are comfortable with their outcome!

Turn on pant leg right side out and place it inside the other leg. Align crotch seam edges, then pin. Sew the seam.
Tuck the fly extensions in and form a faux fly. Pin and topstitch mimicing the topstitching of a zipper fly. Topstitch the complete crotch seam. Add a bar tack at the base of the fly.
Measure the pants upper edge after pulling it straight. Add 2 cm for the sewing allowance and cut the waistband.
Sew the short ends oft he waistband together to form a ring, leaving a 1 cm opening in the stitching line.
Cut back the sewing allowance.
Align the waistband seam with the pants back seam and sew the waistband right side to the pant wrong side.
Fold the waistband up and toward the pants right side. Fold in 1 cm, pin and topstitch through all layers to secure it.
Edgestitch the upper edge and add another stitching line right in the middle oft he waistband. For this seam leave about 2 cm free when reaching the back seam. Insert an elastic to both tunnels and close the opening with a couple of stitches.
