Breezy IZZY Spring and Fall   IZZY

Design: miniplätzchen

IZZY is a fully lined, slightly A-line jacket for Fall. On the other side of Winter, however, there’s no reason not to make an IZZY for your Spring rain jacket!

The diagonal placement of the zipper, together with the organic forms of the pockets create an innovative, modern look. The swingy A-line works well for both slimmer and stockier statures. The sewing pattern is great for both fashion-forward girls and trendsetting boys. The sizing ranges from tots to tweens for many years of IZZY fun.

Depending on your choice of fabric, the jacket has a different effect every time. Because of the unusual design, sewing IZZY in even a simple, monochrome version will garner plenty of attention. On the other hand, it is hard to resist mixing, matching and embellishing with IZZY. Try experimenting with the placement of the accent and breast pockets (on a sleeve, maybe?). Or leave pockets off and let the swing be the thing! Put on your creative thinking cap: YOU are the designer!

IZZY is designed as a mid-weight jacket and can be worn with a sweater underneath. IZZY can be sewn with knit ribbing at the cuffs and collar to keep the chill off.

New-generation water and wind repellant fabrics are excellent choices for the outer material. But sturdy wovens, such as cotton percales, corduroy or light-to-mid-weight denims and twills, also work very well. And sewing both the outer and the lining from thermal fleece will make a huggable, happy hoody.

For the lining, select from French terry, thermal fleece, double-face fleece, faux fur, jersey, French ribbed cotton, double knit, flannel—anything snuggly and comfy. More advanced sewists can add a layer of thinner thermal insulating batting to keep your little warm on the playground when the first winter winds blow.

Make the cuffs and collar from knit ribbing or from interlock jersey with some Lycra content. Or, for an extra special touch, hand knit the cuffs.

The jacket is not very difficult to sew. Although there are a few intermediate techniques, IZZY is a great project to take the beginning sewist to the next level.
